My name is Taylor Young and I am a young journalist looking to begin my career in broadcast television news. I've spent the last two years working as a video journalist and anchor for Lyndon State College's award-winning news organization. We provide a twice-daily live newscasts to over 9,000 subscribers in rural Vermont and northern New Hampshire. Even though we are a college-based news station, News 7 is driven entirely by Lyndon's Electronic Journalism Arts majors. I spent roughly 40 hours a week out in the field and in-station to provide stories for the daily shows and web platforms. In addition to working with a photographer and as a solo journalist, I have served as the News 7 producer. This experience has taught me how to be authoritative and organized in the unpredictable news environment. I also served as a web writer for News 7's online platform, NewsLinc. This is where I would re-purpose content as well as perform research for my own beat stories. Outside of News 7, I interned at Fox 25 News in Boston for their web, news, and creative services departments. My Fox supervisors showed me the ins and outs of succeeding in a top market environment. During my time there, I wrote copy, shot b-roll, assisted on promotional shoots, and submitted content for the prime-time shows. During my free time, I worked for Northern Sports Network as a video journalist, producing highlight packages for the Northern Atlantic Conference college sports organization. This experience has opened my eyes to the sports-side of broadcast media and has taught me the different editing styles of both sports and news. As a recent grad, I already have the knowledge of how to work with deadlines, the pressure of providing the show with daily stories, and how to succeed in a team environment. I left News 7 as a finalist for the Society of Professional Journalists' Mark of Excellence as well as a recipient for the New England Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Science's Student Award of Excellence, both for my video journalism work. I believe that my creativity and passion for visual story-telling would be a great contribution to any newsroom. So please feel free to take a look as some of my work and contact me with any additional questions.
